The Necropsy Course provides a comprehensive understanding of the procedures and techniques used in the post-mortem examination in the forensic and medical field. Participants will explore the process of collecting and analyzing evidence through necropsies, with a focus on accurately determining the cause of death. Topics will be addressed such as the differences between necropsies and autopsies, ethical and legal considerations, sample preparation, dissection and sampling techniques, as well as the analysis of organs and tissues to identify injuries and anomalies. The importance of biosafety in the handling of cadavers will be emphasized and knowledge on conducting toxicological analyzes will be provided.

After completing the Necropsy Course, you will have various job opportunities in the medical and forensic field. You can work as a medical examiner, forensic pathologist, or forensic investigator in government institutions, investigative agencies, forensic laboratories, and hospitals. In addition, you can work as a specialist in toxicological analysis.

What it prepares you for

The Necropsy Course prepares you to assume a fundamental role in determining causes of death and collecting essential medical and forensic information. You will acquire knowledge in dissection techniques, tissue and organ analysis, as well as the identification of injuries and pathologies. You will be trained to apply biosafety measures and carry out post-mortem toxicological analyses.

This Necropsy Course is aimed especially at doctors, although it is a qualification within the University's own teachings that does not qualify for professional practice, therefore according to article 37.7 of Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28, which establishes the organization of university teachings and the quality assurance procedure for the qualifications included within the own teachings that do not require a university degree. prior to access to them, the purpose of the same is the expansion and updating of knowledge, competencies and training or professional skills that contribute to a better job insertion of citizens without a university degree, so it will be open to anyone without a university health access degree who is interested in pursuing it.
