Colostomy is a surgical procedure based on opening the abdominal wall to remove one end of the large intestine, through a stoma. Its fundamental usefulness is to prevent feces from circulating through part of the damaged or removed intestine. Currently, the use of colostomy in cancer patients has increased enormously. Those affected usually require a great deal of care from the entire multidisciplinary team that participates in their case.

The Colostomy Care Course provides specialized training for those interested in providing comprehensive care to patients who have undergone this surgery. Career opportunities are varied and include working as a colostomy nurse, caregiver, nursing assistant in specialized units and medical products consultant.

With this Colostomy Care Course you will have the opportunity to learn new trends in treatments and therapies focused on colorectal cancer, specifically related to colostomies. You will be able to find information about the techniques for good hygienic maintenance, the psychological and physical effects of the intervention or the most relevant care that this type of patient should receive.

This course is aimed especially at nurses and TCAE, although it is a qualification within the University's own teachings that does not qualify for professional practice, therefore according to article 37.7 of Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28, which establishes the organization of university teachings and the quality assurance procedure for the qualifications included within the own teachings that do not require a prior university qualification. For access to them, their purpose is the expansion and updating of knowledge, competencies and training or professional skills that contribute to a better job insertion of citizens without a university degree, so it will be open to anyone without a university health access degree who is interested in pursuing it.
