The purpose of this course is for the student to acquire the necessary knowledge about the fundamentals of structural design and calculation in civil engineering applicable to reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete and structural steel structures. Throughout the program, two learning paths will be established: on the one hand, linear elements in civil engineering, such as beams, underpasses and prestressed concrete vaults, and on the other, the student will be introduced to a fundamental and necessary field in civil engineering: tanks. In the case of the design of prestressed concrete beams, the different types of prestressing forces and losses will be studied, as well as their associated advantages over reinforced concrete beams. Regarding the design of highway underpasses, the different types of loads that act on them will be analyzed, as well as the sheets, their structural behavior and the elements necessary for the different types to be used. Finally, the calculation of deposits will be studied, a topic that many structural technicians reject, given its widespread and demanded use in building, agriculture and industry, being fundamental for human supply and infrastructure firefighting networks. At the end of the course, the student is expected to face the challenge of designing, dimensioning and calculating structural elements of civil works, as well as dimensioning sections of reinforced concrete and steel, as well as prestressed concrete.
