At the end of this module the student will: - Be able to understand what superficial foundations are, - Know the relevant conditions for the design and construction of superficial foundations, - Know the failure modes and the factors associated with each one, - Have at their disposal a wide range of methods to verify the failure modes associated with superficial foundations, - Have acquired key concepts to understand the behavior of superficial foundations.
The Surface Foundations course opens up various job opportunities in the construction and civil engineering sector. With solid knowledge in load-bearing capacity, failure modes and service limit states, graduates can apply for technical specialist roles in foundation design in architecture and engineering firms, construction supervision and consulting on projects involving slabs and wells. Preparation in dynamic aspects and offshore contexts expands the field to marine constructions and structures subjected to environmental loads.
This Surface Foundations course focuses on providing the student with the ability to analyze and understand the essential bases of surface foundations. You will learn to identify the critical factors that influence the design and execution of these structures. You will explore the different failure modes, recognizing the key aspects that affect its stability and performance. In addition, you will become familiar with different methodologies to evaluate the load-bearing capacity and service limit states. Upon completion, you will have theoretical and practical tools to address projects related to foundations in various contexts, including the challenges of the offshore field.
