Master of Permanent Training in Port Infrastructure + 60 ECTS credits

Ports are essential for transport activity and competitiveness between countries. They have enormous potential for creating jobs and investment. 95% of the goods that are transported in the world are made per sea. This figure, together with the greatest sustainability of this medium with respect to road transport, allows us to be optimistic about the growth of the sector. It will therefore be necessary to rehabilitate existing port infrastructure and build new facilities. It is precisely in the maritime work where Spanish construction professionals find notable differences in the internationalization process, since physical environments, uses and customs, as well as construction typologies are not usual in Spain. Maritime works constitute a relevant branch of civil engineering that, usually, is treated with shallow depth in most training itineraries of the different engineering schools. However, these types of works have a series of characteristic aspects that have little to do with other branches of engineering (such as geotechnics, foundations and structures, roads, railroads, or hydraulic works), both by the environment in which they are carried out, and by the volumes of the different work units that are given in it, and that need additional training for those who want to develop their professional activity in their project and construction.

The Master has as its main objective to provide practical knowledge to face port or maritime projects from design and planning to the execution of work through the analysis and preparation of offers, all with an eminently practical and international approach. Offer the student an overview of the typologies, mechanical means, materials used and proceedings for the execution of maritime works and structures that constitute a port. The contents are oriented to construction, therefore being an eminently practical character, and not deepening other aspects, such as project and calculation. The Master also seeks to achieve the following specific objectives: - Know the different types of ports and ships to which it serves. - Know the different typologies of maritime works. - Know the constructive procedures usually used. - Know the different types of materials and their commissioning. - Know the mechanical means usually used in work. - Train for the basic planning of a maritime work.

The work outputs of this Master include positions as a port engineer, Port Project Manager, Maritime Logistics and Transportation Consultant, Operations Analyst, Planning and Management Specialist, and Port Security Supervisor.

The master offers a general training in terms of the execution of maritime and port works, guiding the contents to its construction, to the means and materials used, and presenting the particularities of this branch of civil engineering that complements the deficiencies in this field of a more generalist training.

The Master is aimed at professionals who need to increase their knowledge related to maritime work, to all the professional of the construction sector with basic knowledge in civil engineering who wants to acquire a general training in terms of the execution of maritime and port works. In that sense, it is very attractive to the staff of construction companies with interest in international projects. Therefore, the course is aimed at engineers, architects, public works projectors, construction directors, construction leaders, technicians from public administrations, and students or professionals in the field of civil engineering in general.

This training is not included in the scope of official regulated training (Infant Education, Primary Education, Secondary Education, Official Professional Training FP, Baccalaureate, University Degree, Official University Master and PhD). It is therefore a complementary and/or specialization training, aimed at acquiring certain skills, skills or aptitudes of a professional nature, being able to be barely as merit in workbags and/or opposition competitions, always within the complementary training section and/or continuous training being always essential to review the specific requirements of the public labor stock of the public labor stock market.
